This course is delivered through a combination of theory, practical training, and real-world leadership experience.
Pre-course briefing and planning sessions

To enrol in this course, participants must:
Hold basic snorkelling skills (recommended completion of SISOSNK001 – Snorkel or equivalent experience)
Be confident swimming in open water
Have a reasonable level of fitness
Be at least 14–16 years old (depending on provider requirements)
Complete a medical and safety declaration

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
SISOSNK002 – Lead snorkelling activities
This nationally recognised certification can support pathways into tourism, outdoor recreation, and marine-based roles.

Training is delivered across the Tweed Coast and surrounding marine environments, including:
Calm, sheltered waters for skill development
Open ocean reef sites such as Cook Island Aquatic Reserve
Locations are selected based on safety, weather conditions, and participant ability.

Assessment Activities
Assessment for SISOSNK002 – Lead snorkelling activities is conducted in accordance with national training requirements and focuses on the participant’s ability to safely plan, lead, and evaluate snorkelling activities in open water environments.
Assessment methods include:
Direct Observation:
Participants are observed leading snorkelling activities in controlled and open water environments, including:Conducting pre-activity briefings
Preparing and checking equipment
Supervising participants during snorkelling sessions
Monitoring environmental conditions and group safety
Practical Demonstration:
Participants must demonstrate the ability to:Plan and conduct a snorkelling activity
Manage group dynamics and communication
Apply risk management strategies
Adapt to changing ocean conditions
Scenario-Based Assessment:
Participants respond to simulated or real situations, including:Managing distressed participants
Implementing emergency procedures
Responding to environmental hazards
Knowledge Assessment (verbal or written):
Assessment of understanding in:Safety procedures and risk management
Environmental awareness and minimal impact practices
Legal and organisational responsibilities
Post-Activity Review:
Participants evaluate the activity, reflecting on safety, performance, and areas for improvement.
