The SISOSNK001 – Snorkel Course is delivered using a blended training approach that incorporates theory instruction, practical skills development, and supervised open water experiences.
Training is conducted by qualified instructors in accordance with national training standards, with a strong focus on safety, participant wellbeing, and environmental responsibility.

There are no formal prerequisite units for SISOSNK001 – Snorkel; however, participants must meet the following requirements to ensure safety and successful course completion:
Demonstrate basic swimming ability and water confidence
Possess sufficient language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills to understand instructions and safety information
Be physically capable of participating in snorkelling activities in open water environments
Complete a pre-course medical questionnaire and declaration to identify any conditions that may impact safe participation
Participants under 18 years of age must provide written parent or guardian consent
Participants may be required to disclose any medical conditions (e.g. asthma, heart conditions, ear or sinus issues) that could affect their ability to safely undertake the course.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit:
SISOSNK001 – Snorkel
This certification is issued by PADI RT0 (6729)and is recognised across Australia.

Delivery of the SISOSNK001 – Snorkel Course is conducted in suitable aquatic environments that support both controlled skill development and open water application.
Locations may include:
Confined / controlled environments:
Calm waterways, beaches, or sheltered coastal areas suitable for initial skills trainingOpen water environments:
Coastal reef and island locations, including Cook Island Aquatic Reserve, where participants apply snorkelling skills in real ocean conditions
All locations are selected based on safety, environmental conditions, and participant ability, and may vary depending on weather and operational requirements.

Assessment in the SISOSNK001 – Snorkel Course is completed through practical, hands-on activities during your training.
Your instructor will observe and guide you as you demonstrate essential snorkelling skills, including safe equipment use, water confidence, and basic safety techniques. There are no written exams — assessment is relaxed, supportive, and focused on building your confidence in the water.
Course includes instructions on:
Correct fitting and use of snorkelling equipment
Safe water entry and exit techniques
Effective breathing and snorkel clearing
Finning and propulsion techniques
Application of safety procedures and hazard awareness
Practical Demonstration:
Participants must demonstrate the ability to snorkel safely while maintaining awareness of surroundings, conditions, and other participants.Knowledge assessment ( verbal or informal)
Basic snorkelling safety principles
Environmental awareness and minimal impact practices
Emergency procedures
